The mission of INSIGHT Training and Educational Center (INSIGHT) is to provide specific services to low-income citizens and minorities within the underserved neighborhoods of Northeast Tennessee and surrounding areas that will promote economic and community empowerment.
INSIGHT Training & Education Center was created to serve low income citizens and minorities in Northeast Tennessee. The springboard for this nonprofit comes from a solitary US Census Bureau Statistic. The median household income for Johnson City residents was $38,000. However, for citizens in the city living in the West-Davis, Memorial Park, West Pine, and Keystone neighborhoods —comprised of predominately African-America and Hispanic individuals—their median household income was between $16,000-$18,000. As a result, INSIGHT was formed with the goal of providing educational services and positively improving socioeconomic conditions for low-income, minority residents. The mission of the organization is to provide specific educational services to low-income citizens and minorities within the underserved neighborhoods of Northeast Tennessee that will promote economic and community empowerment.
INSIGHT sponsors initiatives that expose children from low-income backgrounds to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). After accessing the needs of our community, receiving feedback from our partners and families we have decided to expand our STEM Summer Program. It is offered at one site crossing four different school districts. The school districts are: Johnson City Schools, Washington County, Unicoi County and Kingsport City Schools.
